Silicone bibs: everything you ever wanted to know

stack of Bibito silicone bibs

We love silicone bibs. They're easy to use, easy to clean, and they make mealtime so much easier. In other parts of the world, they're also called catcher bibs or pocket bibs. No matter what you call them, they'll be the MVP of your baby's mealtime game. Here are a few FAQ about silicone bibs from the people behind Bibito.

Why would I want to choose a silicone bib?

Silicone is a genius material. It's flexible, soft, heat-resistant, cold-resistant, stain-resistant, and easy to clean. Plus, our bibs are dishwasher-safe, which means less time cleaning up. All of this makes it the perfect choice for a baby bib.

Are silicone bibs non-toxic? Are they BPA-free?

Yes! Our Bibito silicone bibs are made from 100% food-grade, FDA-approved silicone. Our silicone is free of BPA, phthalates, and other sketchy chemicals.

Are all silicone bibs the same?

No. Ours are sturdier and heavier—in a good way—than others we've found. (There's no point in having a food-catching pouch, for instance, if the pouch is too wobbly to contain the mess.) The cheap ones we've seen on Amazon, well... let's just say you get what you pay for.

What about silicone bibs vs. plastic bibs?

When it comes to bibs, we think silicone is a far superior material to plastic. Silicone is a synthetic polymer made from silica and oxygen, which are abundant resources. Plastic, on the other hand, is made from chemicals found in fossil fuels—and if you haven't heard, we're in the middle of a fossil-fuel-driven crisis, so it's best to find better alternatives ASAP.

Are silicone bibs recyclable?

Technically, yes—but not in your curbside recycling. We encourage our customers to give their used bibs to a friend with a new baby, since reusing is even better than recycling. If that's not possible, just send your bib back to us and we'll make sure it's properly recycled.

Who makes the best silicone bib?

Not to toot our own horn—well, actually, we're going to. We think our silicone bibs are the best. They're soft, silky, and endlessly easy to use. They feel substantial. They're made in beautiful colors. Best of all, for every bib purchased, we donate a meal to help fight child hunger. Toot toot!
